Set complex goals

Wednesday, November 1st, 2017

Set a month-long goal, create sub goals, write a reflection of the process.

Main Goal:

Meditate for a minimum of 15 minutes, every morning.

Sub Goals:

  1. Go to bed early
  2. Wake up early
  3. 15 Minutes Meditation
  4. Better Time Management – School
  5. Better Time Management – Uber/Lyft
    1. Earn $500 / week

Reason:

Wanted to make time, and see if meditation really helps with accomplishing goals.

Process/Plan:

  1. Be in bed no later than 11pm every night.
  2. Set alarm to wake me up at 6am, instead of 6:30am
  3. 15 Minute Meditation
  4. Hit the road by 7:15am every morning, Uber/Lyft rides towards Platte Campus
  5. Class 9am – 5pm
  6. Hit the road again from 5pm-6pm, Uber/Lyft rides towards Glendale
  7. Gym then Dinner
  8. Coding and/or Lesson Review
  9. Catch up with School all day Saturday
  10. Catch up on income Uber/Lyft all day Sunday

Reflections:

Meditation is amazing, and have experienced a profound breakthrough this past month.

At first, I found it very difficult to stay on a consistent schedule. However, adjusting things like waking up at same time of day of 6am, to the exact soothing music, really primed my body to just get up. Now, I wake up right before my alarm goes off, it’s nuts.

The more amazing piece was the meditation, and how it helped to plan my day, even though all I was trying to do was clear my thoughts. To be honest, in the beginning I found myself fighting myself to stay on track and finish the meditation, often checking the timer on my phone.

Now, when I finish a typical 15-minute session, my immediate feeling is one of calm, detachment, and elevation. It’s like being fully aware. It doesn’t matter how hectic the day seems to be, I always feel calm after meditating. Everything moves a little more effortlessly.

It’s definitely improved my focus. I’ve long believed focus is a muscle which gets stronger with use, and meditation is a great focus-workout.

Looking ahead, I would like to continue making time for meditation in the morning. However, this time stay more consistent with my exercise, especially with all the driving I do.
