Is it possible to love your job and have autonomy?

Today I was grateful to job shadow a recent Galvanize Alum with a Creative background. Allow me to introduce you Will Meier, Lead Developer at Agency Zero. His responsibilities are everything to do with code, while managing clients.

He is currently working on a website built in WordPress. He showed me how he customized the WordPress site to be more of a React Route format using WebPack, Apollo for the API, and GraphQL.

Afterwards, Will told me the story of how he got hired at the Agency the day after his Capstone.

One of the first things he focused on was mastering Linux to update all their client websites.

His first major project was getting video-heavy https://coupestudios.com up and running, while reducing load times.

He then explained why he preferred Redux to wrap components, and why he was a big fan of React Next for fixing mounting issues, theoretically very similar to a JavaScript promises but with Higher Order Components.

His favorite part of the job is the freedom, autonomy, and trust from his boss and co-workers that he is doing everything right.
